Mask
My commentary
In the Contemporâneos 2021 exhibition, at Centro Cultural Mestre Assis, Embu das Arte, São Paulo, I clarified that it was a "work in progress" that should result in something more solid and defined in its completeness.
At a time marked by the obligation to wear a mask in defense of the Covid-19 epidemic, it came to mind mask, from the Latin masca, in Italian maschera, or yet, the Latin persona coming from the Etruscan person, that included the funerary masks, a reminder of those who had gone.
In Arabic, maskhera refers to clown, buffoon (actor!?).
Some etymologists associate the term with hiding, occulere in Latin, close to oculo, oculum, eyes. Modernly and popularly one can go to the concept revealing at the same time as covering up.
